Determining the correct Hearing Aid Batteries for Your Hearing Device/Aid
There are many types of hearing aids that are available on the market today. All hearing aids are powered by a battery which generally needs to be changed regularly. Choosing the right hearing aid battery is important as there are various hearing aid battery brands and sizes to choose from. It’s important to select the right one to ensure your hearing aid works. At Always Hearing we can talk to you about the hearing aid batteries that are right for your Hearing Aid.
Rechargeable hearing aids with a Lithium Ion (Li-ion) battery are also available. These rechargeable hearing aids need to be charged at night, like your mobile phone.
Types of hearing aid batteries
Our disposable hearing aids batteries in Melbourne come in four different sizes, each of which come with their own colour to assist you in choosing the right one. The instructions which came with your hearing aid will indicate which particular battery is best suited for the hearing aid. The battery sizes and colours are:

Size 10, YELLOW
Used for smaller In-the-canal hearing aids and smaller Behind-the-ear hearing aids
Size 312, BROWN
Used for both In-the-ear and In-the-canal hearing aids, and Behind-the-ear hearing aids.
Size 13, ORANGE
Used for many Behind-the-ear hearing aids and some larger In-the-ear hearing aids
Size 675, BLUE
Used for Cochlear Implants and high power Behind-the-ear hearing aids
It is also important to keep in mind that all hearing aids require a steady current (voltage) to operate. Once the current in the battery drops the hearing aid will cease to work and a new battery will be required. Due to this it is important that the batteries you purchase for your hearing aids are labelled as hearing aid batteries, or come from a hearing aid/hearing aid battery manufacturer.
At Always Hearing we also collect used batteries for recycling. Every year thousands of tonnes of batteries end up in landfill, which contaminates the environment. At Always Hearing, we collect all types of used batteries and drop them off at our local recycling centre for you. Please collect your household batteries, including hearing aid batteries in a glass jar and drop them off to us.
